GEIST

September 27, 2010

Intergalactic Writers Inc. is proud to announce that on October 26th, 2010, author Philippa Ballantine will be releasing her novel Geist

Geist: A Book of the Order

Between the living and the dead stands the Order of the Eye and the Fist, the sole protection against the Otherside. Deacons Sorcha Faris and Merrick Chambers are called to investigate a small settlement… and discover that this is no “ordinary” haunting, but something worse. Much worse.

You may remember Philippa Ballantine from our discussion on podcast novels . She is the writer behind such projects as Chasing the Bard, Digital Magic, and Weather Child. There are a few reasons I keep returning to Pip’s work. The attention to detail and worldbuilding in her writing is superb; whether it’s Elizabethan England or early 20th century New Zealand, she gets it right. I can’t wait to see what she does with a wholly new world at her disposal. The characterization is strong and consistent, and of course, the writing itself is wonderful. There are a few cheeky turns of phrase here and there that I always wish I could steal, but they never get in the way of the most important thing: the story.

This is the fantastic in the original sense of the word: that which straddles the border between the natural, and the supernatural. If you’re looking for fresh, new fantasy, this emerging voice is definitely one you should heed.

Geist will be released October 26th, 2010– just in time for Halloween. If you don’t want to wait a month, you can always check out the Chronicles of the Order, and get a taste for the Empire.

Cheers,

Arvik
